It's always a good time to conduct a mechanical room safety check and review potential liability problems. The following checklist highlights important items to look for:
Ensure that exhaust outlets are located at least 20 feet from inlet vents.
All purges should vent outdoors, not indoors.
Make sure chiller drain valves are locked off.
Isolate the mechanical room by ensuring a tight seal around the main door, including a working lock.
Store the self-contained breathing apparatus outside the mechanical room, not inside.
Clear any low areas in the room floor of unwanted chemical residues that may be present.
Make sure floor drains aren't connected to drains from occupied space such as restrooms.
