Causes of compressor failure

Compressor failure is a frequent occurrence that is encountered by technicians in the hvacr field. Following is a partial list of some common causes of compressor failure:

•  Liquid wash out.

•  Liquid dilution of lubricant.

•  Lack of lubrication.

•  Liquid slugging.

•  Single phasing.

•  Faulty contactors (relays, etc.).

•  High compression ratios.

•  High discharge temperatures.

•  Operational control adjustment.

•  Operational control override.

•  Under/over charging.

•  System voltage problems.

•  System component failure.

•  Safety control override.

•  Environmental conditions.

•  Energy management systems.

•  Improper cleanup or prior change-out.
