Effect of receiver location
Question: What is the operational effect of a refrigerant receiver located 3 to 4 feet above the outlet of an air-cooled condenser?
Answer: You are dealing with the weight of the liquid head. So if you have a 4-foot rise you have a 2-pound positive pressure that floods the condenser, possibly causing higher-than-normal head pressure.
Question from Jim Phillips, CMS, Sacramento , Calif. Answer by Steve Esslinger, vice president of operations, Zero Zone Refrigeration.
