Metering Devices

Low Side Float Operation:

    1. A liquid level control, located on low side of the system

    2. Operates on the rate of evaporation

    3. As the load increases, more ref. evaporates the liquid level in the evaporator decreases the valve will OPEN ON DECREASE of liquid level

Characteristics:

  • Media temperature control by (temperature and pressure)

  • May not be critically charged

  • If not critically charged may use a receiver to store refrigerant for variations in load

  • Used on flooded coils

  • Simple and reliable

  • Low side are common on ammonia systems

  • Low side float may be arranged with a H. S. Hand Expansion Valve, high and low level alarms

  • This arrangement is commonly called Electric Float Switch
