Low Side Float Operation:
- A liquid level control, located on low side of the system
- Operates on the rate of evaporation
- As the load increases, more ref. evaporates the liquid level in the evaporator decreases the valve will OPEN ON DECREASE of liquid level
Characteristics:
- Media temperature control by (temperature and pressure)
- May not be critically charged
- If not critically charged may use a receiver to store refrigerant for variations in load
- Used on flooded coils
- Simple and reliable
- Low side are common on ammonia systems
- Low side float may be arranged with a H. S. Hand Expansion Valve, high and low level alarms
- This arrangement is commonly called Electric Float Switch
