Function of a Metering Device

Purpose:

1. Meters refrigerant into the evaporator
   
   
2. Provides a pressure drop which separates the high side from the low-side
   
   

Operation:

• Refrigerant enters the metering device as a high pressure medium temp. subcooled liquid
  
  
• The liquid refrigerant will then flow through a restricting orifice where the pressure will be decreased, as a result
  
  
• Refrigerant will leave the metering device as a low pressure low temperature
  
  
• Saturated liquid vapor mix 25% vapor 75% liquid
