Gas Laws
When ever using pressure of temperature in an equation like the gas laws you must use the absolute scale of pressure (PSIA) and temperature (Rankin or Kelvin)
Perfect Gas Law
When Volume or Pressure or Temperature are constant they cancel out
Pascal's law
States that pressure applied upon a confines fluid is transmitted equally in all directions
Example: a ref cylinder: the volume of this cylinder will never change. If its volume is 10 cu. Ft. it will remain the same. If we add gas to the cylinder this will occupy the entire cylinder and exert pressure on all sides or in all directions. ( unlike solids or liquids)
Pascal's law set the foundation for application of another Gas law known as Charles law
Charles Law
First law states that if the volume of a gas remains constant then the absolute pressure varies Directly with the Absolute Temp.
Second law states that if pressure remains constant then the volume of the gas varies directly with the absolute temp. |
