Introduction to Refrigeration

Charles' Law

Must use Rankin and PSIA measurements

States that “at a constant pressure, the volumes of gas varies directly as to the absolute temperature, and at a constant volume the pressure of gas varies directly as to the absolute temperature”

Formulas

Volume to Temperature V1/T1 = V2/T2

where V1 is original V

T1 is original temp + 460 F

V2 is new V and T2 new temp in R

Pressure to Temperature P1/T1 = P2/T2

where P1 is original + 14.7 to make it PSIA

P2 is new pressure in PSIA

T1 is original temp. + 460F

T2 is new temp. in Rankin
