Determining Motor Power Factor

Determining Motor Power factor

Power Factor = True power (Watt Meter)
Apparent power ( E x I )

Power in a single phase motor

Power = E x I x PF

What is the power output of a motor that is operating at 230V single phase drawing 12 amps with a watt meter reading of 1800 watts.

Power Factor = 1800 1800 = .65PF = 65% eff
12 x 230 2760

Power = (I) x (E) x (PF) = Watts

Power = (12) x (230) x (0.65) = 1794 Watts

100%eff = (12) x (230) x (1.0 (Power factor AC)) = 2760W
