Series Circuits

The Laws of Series Circuits

Where:

  • E = Electro-Motive Forces in Volts
  • I = Current in Amperes
  • R= Resistance in Ohms

Voltage Law

  • total voltage in a series circuit is equal to the sum of  the voltage drops at the resistors
  • ET = ER1 + ER2 + ER3

Current Law

  • total current is a series circuit is equal throughout the series
  • IT = IR1 = IR2 = IR3

Resistance Law

      • total resistance in a series circuit is equal to the sum of the resistance of the resistors
      • RT = R1 + R2 + R3
